Hops & Havoc#

They took our bar. We're taking their planet.

Hops & Havoc is a comedy-action universe about two middle-aged friends from a small North Carolina mountain town who pick a fight with craft breweries and discover that artisanal beer culture is the delivery system for an alien invasion.

What begins as a neighborhood feud grows into a planetary resistance led by:

  • Doug Walker, an action-movie disciple who never mentally left 1989.
  • Jerry Collins, a practical repairman and vindicated conspiracy theorist.
  • B.A.R.R.Y., a self-aware brewery AI with no patience for organic life.

Canon Policy#

Canon has three states:

  • Core canon: approved facts in docs/.
  • Project canon: details introduced in a released story or game that do not contradict core canon.
  • Proposal: concepts in docs/ideas.md or project planning files.

When documents conflict, the World Bible and Master Timeline take precedence. Any continuity change must update all affected cross-references in the same commit.

Creative Rules#

  • Comedy comes from sincere people handling absurd events seriously.
  • Never wink at the audience or apologize for the premise.
  • Target balance: 70% comedy, 20% action, 10% emotional depth.
  • Doug and Jerry may be foolish, but they are never disposable fools.
  • Barry is usually correct and still manages to be unbearable.
  • The Hop Collective believes it is improving Earth.
  • Every escalation should preserve the importance of Randy's Tavern.

Naming Conventions#

Use stable reference IDs in planning documents:

  • Characters: CHAR-###
  • Factions: FAC-###
  • Locations: LOC-###
  • Artifacts: ART-###
  • Enemies: ENM-###
  • Timeline stories: STORY-##

IDs are permanent even if display names change.
