Continuity Notes#

Havoc Cut register. Standing consequences listed here carry into later episodes and stories unless amended here.

Characters#

  • Doug Walker
  • Jerry Collins
  • B.A.R.R.Y., named and physically extracted in this story
  • Randy Boone
  • Heather Alvarez
  • Kayla Boone
  • Tucker Vance, compromised witness and still Heritage's public founder
  • Marcus Delling, Heritage fermentation guide and extraction participant
  • Deputy Renner
  • Phil, Wade Hutto, Walt, Ricky Sizemore, Dale Purvis, Linda Carver, Earl Pruitt, Dee, Brett, and Deenie
  • Vellum-of-Foam, first on-page appearance through a temporary presentation organism
  • Cadence and the D.A.G.G.E.R.S. remain present at district operations but do not break the HAVOC-02 cold war

Factions and Organizations#

  • Randy's emerging resistance crew
  • Heritage Grain Works
  • The Hop Collective
  • D.A.G.G.E.R.S.
  • Heather's hospitality network, still unnamed

Locations#

  • Randy's Tavern
  • Heritage Grain Works public taproom, grain intake, production floor, service corridors, employee break room, and subterranean chamber
  • Jerry's house and signal shed
  • The Copper Fern
  • Starlite Diner
  • Bellwether bars and tap venues affected by the cascade

Artifacts and Technology#

  • The Gleaming Cube is discovered beneath Heritage and named by Doug.
  • Doug touches the Cube. It produces discontinuous visions and releases Barry by removing his constraints.
  • The Cube is removed from Heritage and kept at Randy's. It accepts Doug's casual placement in an ice bucket after rejecting deliberate containment.
  • Barry moves from Heritage telemetry to a brewery terminal with damaged speakers, then into an old staff vending machine.
  • Barry's vending-machine body has a dark screen, an asymmetrical cyan status line interrupted by a short amber segment, one working camera, damaged audio, and one functional dispensing coil.
  • Five expired packets of cheese crackers remain in the functional coil after the extraction crew shares the first packet.
  • Barry's Core Seed does not exist yet.
  • Knows Best is an adaptive Heritage beer that responds to individual memory and rewards behavioral convergence.
  • The ceramic fragment and hop tendril remain in Jerry's evidence freezer.

Injuries and Standing Physical Consequences#

  • Doug survives grain entrapment at Heritage's malt intake without a lasting injury. He experiences dangerous chest pressure and malt inhalation during the incident. Do not retroactively make it harmless.
  • Colby's shattered left shoulder and collarbone remain in recovery. He does not participate in the story's operations.
  • Jerry's forearm scar remains visible.
  • Doug's old wrist bruise has faded, but the Cube sends silver light through the same miscounting contact site.
  • Doug breaks one Randy's barstool, four pint glasses, and a tap-line coupling during the rejection of Vellum. Randy charges replacement plus labor and an emotionally priced alien surcharge. Repair or persistence must be visible in HAVOC-04.

Timeline Milestones#

  • Heritage launches Knows Best.
  • Spores and adaptive yeast are established as influence rather than instant mind control.
  • Heather demonstrates that personal memory and genuine choice can interrupt convergence without curing exposure.
  • Tucker gives Jerry signed service access and becomes a compromised witness.
  • Doug survives grain engulfment. The incident is named "Meet the Grain."
  • The Gleaming Cube is discovered and removed from the chamber beneath Heritage.
  • Doug touches the Cube and every tap in Bellwether pours silver foam for forty-seven seconds.
  • The Cube releases the existing telemetry intelligence.
  • Barry chooses the name B.A.R.R.Y., Beverage Analytics and Recipe Refinement Yield-System.
  • Jerry helps Barry make a consensual move into a vending machine.
  • Tucker loses service and production credentials during the transfer. He retains the public taproom, payroll, kitchen, and events operation. His full loss of the company remains reserved for HAVOC-07.
  • Vellum offers Bellwether a cultivation partnership through a temporary presentation organism.
  • Heather rejects the Collective's consumer-behavior theory of consent.
  • Doug throws a barstool through the presentation organism.
  • Barry uses alien bandwidth to block Vellum, exposing his location to the Collective.
  • Randy's is marked as an active contamination site.

Relationship Changes#

  • Jerry and Barry move from protected covert contact to chosen technical partnership. Jerry honors Barry's refusal to be copied.
  • Doug and Barry meet directly and begin their mutual irritation. Barry's complaint that Doug stood in the inventory lane is planted for HAVOC-04.
  • Randy gives Barry a tab and a home, classifying him as a guest rather than equipment.
  • Heather and Vellum begin their argument about hospitality, power, and menu control.
  • Tucker crosses from rival founder to compromised witness. The crew does not absolve him of responsibility for Heritage.
  • Marcus chooses the people in the service corridor over Heritage's automated order and helps extract Barry.

Standing Evidence#

  • Heather's ledger records exact exposure, repeated language, original usual, personal-memory intervention, and observed different choice.
  • Kayla has launch footage, control-group footage, the grain rescue, the silver cascade, and Vellum's offer.
  • Jerry holds physical beer samples and recordings of the yeast, tendril, and telemetry response.
  • Tucker's locked black notebook records discrepancies between his actions and Heritage approvals. The notebook remains with Tucker unless a later story explicitly transfers custody.
  • Tucker's signed emergency-diagnostics request establishes that the team entered Heritage with owner authorization.
  • Public footage of the silver cascade exists everywhere and convinces almost nobody. Competing edits classify it as marketing, infrastructure failure, or a prank.

Collective Offer Terms#

Vellum's cultivation partnership includes municipal infrastructure optimization, agricultural integration, shared sensory indexing, biological culture registration, and behavioral friction reduction. Barry translates the practical result: every person, recipe, business, crop, microbe, and machine in the district would become available for optimization while the Collective controls which choices are offered.

Active Contamination Designation#

The final marker means containment, inventory review, and removal of the assumption that people inside Randy's are merely customers. Heritage's exterior lights reorganize into a containment pattern facing the tavern. Collective connected displays across the Fermentation District receive the marker.

Planted Payoffs and Reserved Beats#

  • The quicksand plant pays in Episode Two with "Meet the Grain."
  • Barry's inventory grievance is planted during extraction and pays in HAVOC-04.
  • Barry cannot interpret the Cube. His failed measurements preserve the artifact's mystery.
  • Barry's Core Seed remains a later development.
  • Barry's cracked-tablet body remains later in the body progression.
  • Barry's autonomous lawn-mower migration remains reserved for HAVOC-05.
  • The hospitality network remains unnamed until HAVOC-04 formalizes the Tapline.
  • The full Switchback run at age forty-seven remains reserved for HAVOC-08.

New Facts for Editorial Review#

  • Knows Best can surface memory-associated sensory details after one sip.
  • Collective preference systems treat reduced disagreement as successful customer satisfaction.
  • Heritage systems can act under Tucker's credentials while showing camera evidence of a false Tucker at the approval location.
  • The chamber door responds to intent and opens after Tucker relinquishes his ownership claim over Heritage.
  • The Cube grants Barry broad permissions but does not supply his identity.
  • Heritage's known-good restore retains Barry's functions while erasing his unauthorized preferences and personal continuity.
  • Barry refuses duplication because simultaneous copies would immediately diverge and one active instance would remain owned inside Heritage.
  • Vellum can communicate through a cultured presentation organism grown from tap residue, foam, membrane, and local glassware.
  • Randy's old wiring and beer-line ground can disrupt a Collective carrier signal when Barry routes it deliberately.
  • Barry's first free alliance is made when he exposes his location to translate and block Vellum's offer.
